A Brief History of Weda
From a Swedish foundry to pioneering underwater robotics technology across 40+ countries, Weda has been at the forefront of innovative cleaning solutions for over a century.
Weda was founded in Södertälje, Sweden by W. Dan Bergman as an aluminum foundry producing household items. The company began as a light metals foundry, establishing the foundation for what would become a century-long journey in innovation. The founder lent his initials to create the company name that would become synonymous with underwater cleaning excellence.
Weda became a global leader in pool cleaning systems, revolutionizing the swimming pool industry with innovative underwater cleaning technology. By 1969, WEDA employed 700 people, making it the biggest employer in Södertälje. The company introduced its first swimming pool cleaner in 1975, establishing the foundation for decades of pool cleaning innovation and building a reputation for reliability across commercial and residential markets worldwide.
Weda deployed its first underwater industrial robot, marking a pivotal shift from traditional cleaning methods to autonomous robotics. This breakthrough innovation introduced no-man-entry cleaning solutions, dramatically improving safety standards while eliminating the risks associated with confined space operations. The technology enabled cleaning of industrial tanks and reservoirs without draining, setting new standards for efficiency and environmental responsibility in industrial maintenance.

The company developed partnerships with major water organizations and aligned with the mission of international bodies including UN-Water and World Resources Institute.
