Forsmark is one of Sweden’s three active nuclear power plants, known for its advanced safety systems and environmental compliance. The plant features multiple spent fuel pools and storage tanks that require strict cleanliness to prevent corrosion, contamination, or obstruction. These environments are high-radiation zones where manual access is heavily restricted. Forsmark employs robotic cleaning systems to perform maintenance tasks during scheduled outages. This improves dose control, shortens downtime, and ensures that all pool systems are operating within nuclear regulatory limits.

The Challenge

Cleaning reactor tanks post-drainage exposed maintenance teams to airborne radioactive aerosols, requiring up to 48 hours of ventilation and causing significant downtime.
