Kraftwerke Oberhasli AG – Switzerland

“Our alpine reservoir is critical for energy and snow production — Weda’s robot cleaned it perfectly without damaging the liner.”
— Site Manager, Kraftwerke Oberhasli AG

KWO operates hydroelectric infrastructure in the Bernese Alps, including reservoirs used for both power generation and artificial snow production. The artificial reservoir in this case study was lined and covered, requiring periodic sediment removal to preserve flow rates and pump integrity. Due to its alpine location, access is difficult and draining the reservoir would result in significant downtime. KWO integrated robotic cleaning to perform safe, efficient desilting while keeping the reservoir online. This technology supports energy resilience in a mountainous, weather-dependent region.

The Challenge

Sediment buildup at the bottom of the lined reservoir posed risks to the liner’s integrity and reduced water storage capacity. Traditional methods were too invasive and costly.

The Weda Solution

The YT-800 robot was chosen for its gentle yet effective suction and its proven ability to work in lined environments. Weda technicians oversaw the commissioning and initial training.
