OKG, the operator of the Oskarshamn nuclear power station, is responsible for maintaining one of Sweden’s key power generation sites. The facility includes multiple reactor units with associated cooling and spent fuel storage pools. Over time, these water-filled basins accumulate radioactive sediment, sludge, and biological material. Because of the high-radiation environment, traditional manual cleaning methods are not feasible. OKG integrates robotic cleaning systems to ensure operational cleanliness, minimize radiation dose to workers, and adhere to strict international and national nuclear safety standards.
The Challenge
OKG needed a solution to manage sedimentation and aerosol buildup in its reactor tank without relying on manual methods or exposing staff to radiation.
