Pilkington Glass – Egypt
“Our cooling system no longer suffers from sediment blockages. Weda’s B600 is the safest solution we’ve used.”
— Facilities Engineer, Pilkington Glass Egypt
Pilkington’s facility in Egypt produces high-temperature glass products using continuous cooling systems. One of their submerged water tanks became clogged with mineral scale and sediment from prolonged use, causing performance degradation and increased maintenance intervals. Draining the tank was costly due to thermal process sensitivity. The plant implemented robotic cleaning to remove buildup without interrupting production. This solution extended equipment life, improved cooling efficiency, and allowed for predictable maintenance in a demanding industrial environment where uptime is critical.
The Challenge
Sediment buildup in an underground cooling tank was affecting efficiency. The tank could not be drained easily, and manual cleaning posed risks due to heat and access constraints.
The Weda Solution
Weda deployed the B600 robot, equipped with a warning light for visual tracking through water. The robot cleaned the tank remotely while the system remained in partial operation, reducing both downtime and labor exposure.
