POSCO Steel Plant – South Korea

“Weda’s team and technology handled one of our toughest cleaning challenges. Our steel plant never had to pause operations.”
— Facility Director, POSCO Steel Korea

POSCO is one of the world’s largest steel manufacturers, and its South Korean plant includes massive cooling reservoirs and sedimentation basins used in blast furnace and rolling operations. These basins are subject to rapid accumulation of fine particulate matter, slag, and scale. Cleaning them manually is highly labor-intensive and often requires halting operations. POSCO integrated submersible robotic cleaners to maintain continuous operation of these water systems. The approach has reduced cleaning frequency, improved thermal efficiency, and significantly lowered labor and safety risks.

The Challenge

A large open-air reservoir had built up significant sediment from operational discharge. Cleaning was urgent, but draining the tank was not an option given continuous plant operation.

The Weda Solution

Weda supplied the YT-800 along with a support crew. The unit was lowered into the reservoir by crane and began desilting operations while the plant remained active.
