Pune Water – India

“Weda’s robotic solution allowed us to clean large-scale reservoirs without draining — a critical water-saving intervention.”
— Municipal Water Officer, Pune Water Department

The city of Pune, India, has experienced rapid urban growth, placing pressure on its water supply infrastructure. The local water department oversees several large uncovered reservoirs, many of which are affected by seasonal sedimentation due to monsoons, dust, and organic debris. These reservoirs are essential for supplying millions of residents. Manual cleaning would require draining and weeks of downtime. By deploying robotic systems, Pune Water is able to maintain hygiene and storage efficiency while minimizing service interruptions, water waste, and labor risks.

The Challenge

The city needed a solution to clean large, open-air reservoirs with significant sediment and debris buildup. Conventional cleaning required full drainage — an unacceptable waste of water in a water-stressed region.

The Weda Solution

Weda deployed a YT-800 robot to conduct sediment removal underwater without interrupting supply. The cleaner was locally operated after initial training, ensuring operational self-sufficiency.
