Yara Italy Water – Italy

“When our intake scraper failed, Weda’s robot was the only solution that could handle the sediment — without halting operations.”
— Maintenance Manager, Yara Italy

Yara is a global producer of agricultural fertilizers and chemical products, with manufacturing sites across Europe. Their facility in Italy operates a large intake reservoir system that supplies cooling and process water. Over time, this reservoir accumulated significant sediment and biological material, threatening water flow and heat exchange efficiency. Yara implemented robotic cleaning technology to restore and maintain the reservoir’s performance. The solution minimized downtime and eliminated the need for draining or confined space entry, aligning with the company’s industrial safety and productivity goals.

The Challenge

A mechanical scraper used to manage sedimentation in the intake basin had malfunctioned. Draining the reservoir for manual cleaning would result in significant downtime and safety risks.

The Weda Solution

Weda deployed the YT-800 — a high-powered, submersible dredging robot. The robot was air-freighted to Italy, and Weda technicians were dispatched onsite to commission the unit and assist in the first cleaning.
